Seattle takes a lead in Healthy Farms, Food and People in the 2012 Farm Bill
Council President Richard Conlin today joined with local civic leaders and farmers to announce a new initiative to promote sustainable health-centered agriculture policies, the Seattle Farm Bill Principles. The goal of this effort is to provide guidance to Congress on the importance of access to fresh and nutritious food and other critical issues as they begin considering the 2012 renewal of the Farm Bill.  The principles offer a new set of values and policies to guide decisions nationally. ALFI Fruit Tree, Vine, & Berry Bush Sale Recap
The sale was on January 22, 2011. We sold 3091 trees, vines and berry bushes, raising over $18,000 for the Atlanta Local Food Initiative! Thanks for helping us make the fruit tree sale a huge success!

Atlanta Proposing Zoning Ordinance to Protect Farmers Markets
The formal process to begin amending Atlanta's zoning code to establish a specific permitting process for farmers markets to operate on private land has begun! This zoning update seeks to protect true farmers markets (farmer and fresh food-focused) and provide conditions for more to flourish around the city. This process begins now with Neighborhood Planning Unit meetings throughout January 2011 before heading to the Zoning Review Board, City Council Zoning Committee, and final approval by the full City Council Spring 2011. Atlanta Local Food Forward Recap
The Atlanta Local Food Initiative held the Atlanta Local Food Forward summit to bring key stakeholders together to develop key action steps from The Plan for Atlanta's Sustainable Food Future.
